At push of button, this year's Madness collection has 227 works in 183+ fandoms.

Madness collection

Main collection

AO3 wranglers have processed a lot of new fandoms; in the main collection, the 992 that appeared on the fandoms page at reveals have become 1065! Thanks to everyone who has helped make wranglers' jobs easier by using canonical tags, tags from the tag set, or other recommended tags, as appropriate in each case.

If you've written in a new fandom that isn't wrangled yet, we encourage you to use Unspecified Fandom as a tag to help people find your work; many works originally tagged this way now have wrangled fandoms, in which case, you can take the tag off if you wish.

As in the last post:

Birdfeeding

Today is cloudy, cool, foggy, and wet.  It rained last night and water is still dripping from the trees today.  Also the thermometer-hygrometer peripheral for our home weather station has died, so we need to see if that's available as a replacement part.  :/

I fed the birds.  I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 12/25/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 12/25/25 -- I hauled the last large branches to the ritual meadow.  Then I started the long process of raking the parking lot.

EDIT 12/25/25 -- I did more work around the patio.

EDIT 12/25/25 -- I did more raking in the parking lot.

I've seen two squirrels in the trees.  I've seen several cardinals flying around.

EDIT 12/25/25 -- I did more work around the patio.

It's drizzling again.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Christmas Lockbox

If there is anything you need to get off your chest, to let go so that you can get on, you can safely do it here. This post will be open for anyone, all day--but then tomorrow, it goes away. No judgement, no recrimination. Just a free space for anyone who needs to vent. And if no one does, nothing is lost!

Basically, this is someone's "Hard Things" post for holiday stress. Brilliant.

This Conversation...

Bokeh is that creamy blur of color and light at the forefront and background of an image. It's that Out of Focus area, which draws your eye to the crisp subject... a car or face.

Now there's an obscure but super useful word for something we see quite often.  :D

December 22-26 is Lonely Prompts Week and it will be a challenge week! Each day will have a different theme for you to base the prompts you fill on.

In the past, we used to have a "winner" who completed the most fills every day, and at the end of the week, we'd announce an overall winner. But this time around, we're doing things differently! There are no winners or “losers”, just prompts that have been filled. At the end of the week, we'll be sharing a round-up post of all the lonely prompts that have been filled.

Thursday's Theme: Outside Point Of View.

More Information: All fills should be told from an outsider’s POV

If you leave a request, please make sure it follows the theme for the day and that each request is a new comment.

You are more than welcome to fill any and all lonely prompts, but only the prompts filled for the current theme will be counted for the daily totals. I will however include a list of those who filled other prompts when I do the round-up at the end of the week.

Please number your fills when leaving more than one in a comment. This helps me when I'm ready to count them up.

To find those elusive Lonely Prompts, you can go into the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.

To get things going, a few rules that I ask you all to follow.

1. You can only request five prompts to be filled. Please create a new comment for each prompt request.
2. You can request no more than three prompts from the same fandom.
3. You can, however, fill as many prompts as you'd like!
4. In the subject line, be sure to say whether this is a request or a fill!
5. You must link back to whatever the prompt is in the community logs (whether filling or requesting it be filled), and, if you're filling the prompt, please complete the fill as a response to the original prompt.
6. If you are filling an "any/any" prompt, please let us know what fandom (or, if original, say so!) you're using for the response.
7. If you filled any lonely prompts earlier this week, this is the place to share them!
8. Finally, we now have a community at AO3. If you have an AO3 account, please post your fills there. More information on how to do this is located at this link.

This Ends in Embers by Kamilah Cole

This Ends in Embers by Kamilah Cole is the second tome in the Divine Traitors duology, about dragon riders and girls who can channel the power of the Gods.

I loved Book 1, but found that Book 2 didn't have enough focus on the relationships (of all types) because the characters were either in different locations or one of them was unconscious/possessed...

There's major f/f, as well as m/f where the girl is on the aroace spectrum.

I'm sitting here at my table looking out across the trees (I'm on a hill). It's darker than usual today, not light enough yet to see if it's clouds causing the dark but I suspect it is. Thank you, clouds. I love these dark mornings so much. The other night the little chirpy weather girl (still many years away from being a woman) said that this was the longest day of the year and soon we'd have 18 hours of daylight. Shut Up, Bitch. I know she's not wrong but does she have to throw it in my face???

Oh turns out to be clouds and fog. A double gift.

The cats got up before I did and were quite interested in breakfast, ate a bunch of it, and are now back in their closet fast asleep.

I think I'm going to suit up and go for a swim and then come home and enjoy the rest of the day. I have plenty to keep me amused. I have food aplenty. No need for any peopling. A very lovely Christmas.

Community Recs Post!

Every Thursday, we have a community post, just like this one, where you can drop a rec or five in the comments.

This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget: you can deffo make posts of your own seven days a week. ;D!)

So what cool fics/fanvids/podfics/fancrafts/fanart/other kinds of fanworks have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

BTW, AI fanworks are not eligible for reccing at recthething. If you aware that a fanwork is AI-generated, please do not rec it here.

Wishing everyone Merry Christmas (if you celebrate) and a Happy Thursday (if you don't.) 😉

God jul!

Merry Christmas for those of you who celebrate: In Sweden Christmas Eve is the big day, but as I worked in the evening we didn’t do much. My parents came for lunch, and it was all very nice anyway. We don’t go in for lots of gifts, I gave my husband and son a sweater each, because that is what they both wanted. And my husband gave me a book. It was written in the 1950s and is an analysis of the bodies, jewelry and clothes worn by king Gustav Vasa, his three wives, his son Johan III and his second wife. They all lived in the 16th century, and the book is probably only of interest for a history and costume history nerd like me.

Working was thankfully slow, and as I work evening today as well, I hope to have another slow workday. I plan to check out Yuletida and see if there is any fanfic that interests me. I hope you all have a lovely day, regardless of how you spend it!
